משרד מבקר המדינה פותח בחקירה במטרה לגלות אם היו גורמים במשרד המשפטים, מכהנים או כאלו שהספיקו לפרוש, שניסו להשפיע ולדחוף לשינוי תוצאות הבחירות.
היקף החקירה הוא גדול ובמהלכה יחקרו גם כל החשדות הרלוונטיים הנוספים שעלולים לצוץ במהלכה.
